Activity Time: 45 minutes
This activity is designed to (1) improve core stability and strength in the low tone child, (2) provide vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile sensory input, and (3) educate parents on how to assist their children in these areas in the home environment. Specific sensory behaviors will be discussed and strategies designed to limit undesirable behaviors will be shared with parents. This activity will answer the questions beginning with, Why does my child? This group is also designed to allow exploration of sensory experiences. Children will engage in exciting movement opportunities such as spinning in a circle on a rotary swing, jumping on a trampoline, hanging and climbing from various types of suspended equipment, zooming down an incline on a scooter-board, and crashing in a ball pit. Children will fulfill their sensory needs through play and movement in this group as they become more adept at motor coordination. Social skill nuances such as making direct eye contact, asking for a turn, sharing a toy, and being socially appropriate will be emphasized.
This activity is perfectly tailored for children 2-3 years of age. Children will begin the activity in circle time which will consist of super fun songs and easy-to-follow movement patterns. Next, children will transition to our fine motor area where they will participate in variety of stimulating activities that focus on eye-hand coordination, sensory processing, direction-following, and social exchanges (such as direct eye contact, personal space, turn taking, etc.). The activity will culminate with a smooth transition to closing circle which will consist of a wrap-up song and a review of what the children accomplished. When applicable, children will be able to bring home their amazing work and share it with their family and/or caregivers.
This activity is designed to (1) improve bilateral (right and left sides of the body) coordination, (2) enhance eye-hand coordination, (3) improve consistency of mid-line crossing, (4) trunk rotation, (5) increase body awareness, and (6) timing of movement. Classes will be presented in a fun way and consist of obstacle courses with progressive levels of difficulty, eye-hand coordination games and activities, mirror games, rock wall climbing, perceptual motor activities, ball skills, oral-motor games, ribbon wand games, songs incorporating rhythm sticks, and many other activities. Interactive Metronome may be incorporated into sessions to assist with timing and graded control of simple movements. This activity is ideal for the child who appears clumsy, bumps into objects or people, seems uncoordinated, and performs tasks in a slow and belabored way.
This activity is designed to (1) offer a variety of sensory input in a safe and purposeful way and (2) capitalize on the calming and organizing effect of the sensory input and engage children in an age-appropriate developmental skill. All classes will begin by enabling children to explore a variety of sensory experiences. Some examples are: pulling a peer on a scooter board, climbing through tunnels, bouncing on a large therapy ball, pushing/pulling a peer on a swing, flying down a zip line and crashing into large pillows, and upside-down bowling. Based on your childs individual sensory needs, our therapists will guide your child to and engage your child in sensory activities/equipment that are the most suitable. During the last fifteen minutes of the class, children will participate in a fine motor, perceptual motor, or visual motor integration task that is appropriate for pre-school and/or kindergarten age children. Special attention to pre-writing strokes, grasp patterns on pencils/crayons, and handwriting exercises will be offered. This activity will help your child through pre-school and prepare your child for kindergarten in the fall!
This activity is designed to (1) develop core stability, strength, flexibility, and balance, (2) strengthen kinesthetic sense (the perception of motion, weight, or position of the body as muscles and joints move), and (3) enhance direction-following skills. This group encourages children to have fun while moving together through yoga postures and making friends. Children will enjoy a brief circle time with music followed by participation in a variety of games, stories, crafts that incorporate yoga poses. Games will incorporate simple yoga poses that invite children to pretend to be or feel like various animals or objects after which the pose is named. Use of imitation and imagery inspire childrens' imaginations and promote activity that combines movement, breathing and focus.
This activity is designed to (1) improve core and upper extremity strength necessary to maintain an upright sitting posture needed to write at a desk, (2) improve fine motor in-hand manipulation and strengthening, visual motor integration and visual perceptual skills, (3) offer sensory (kinesthetic, tactile, proprioceptive and visual) input that assists with self-regulation, organization, and attention, and (4) ultimately enhance writing legibility. Pencil grip, letter sizing, spacing, attention to base-, top-, and margin lines, writing pressure, pencil control, proper writing posture, paper stabilization with non-dominant hand, proper letter formation, and writing precision will be emphasized during this class. If deemed necessary, adaptive equipment will be incorporated to facilitate the writing process. Participation in this activity is recommended if your childs handwriting is messy and is impacting his/her classroom performance!
Technology is an integral part of most childrens' lives, especially a child who is between the ages of 8-10. For this reason, we are offering Technology . Children will be working on skills without even knowing it, with the use of IPADs and the XBOX 360 as well as other great tools. During this activity, children will have so much fun playing a variety of technology-based games that have been specifically chosen because of the skills that they work on. The following skills will be incorporated into the games and activities: motor-planning and timing of movement, typing, body awareness and eye-hand/eye-foot coordination.
This activity has been created for children who would benefit from skill refinement. Fine Tuners has been designed for regular education children who experience some minor difficulties related to coordination, core strength and stability, visual motor integration (handwriting/typing), and visual perceptual skills. Whether it’s due to low tone or low motivation, some children are just not performing up to speed. This activity is designed to inspire confidence and foster success in the child who would otherwise be frustrated by his/her inadequacies.
