At FunSense LLC, our goal is to support children with developmental disorders and their families. All programs are developed to enhance the learning and development experience using the latest in methods, technologies and protocols. FunSense LLC prides ourselves on our determination to try new ideas, record our results and modify our programs so that the child's experience is always enhanced while in therapy sessions or at home. Our goal is to support the development of your child. With this goal at the center of everything we do, we will always do our best to provide each child with the special attention they need and deserve.
The occupational therapist is an agent who facilitates change during the therapeutic process and who shares his/her knowledge about ways to generalize skills to the home or classroom environment. Occupational therapists are trained how to break down the components of an activity so that they can determine whether a child has the necessary skills to perform it. Once deficit areas are identified, they are addressed through purposeful, therapeutic activities (during gym time and special activities), modifications, and/or adaptations.
Pediatric OTs at Funsense strive to enhance skill levels relating to sensory integration, neuromuscular control, motor coordination, attention span, social skills, self-management, and coping/compensatory strategies. By establishing a customized program for your child, the FunSense Gym will provide a multitude of sensory experiences within the context of meaningful play which will help your child develop the necessary skills to solve problems, work cooperatively with others and improve learning and development.
Funsense Gym has literally changed our son’s life! At Funsense Gym, our son has worked on gross motor skills like jumping, climbing, balancing, throwing, and catching. He works on fine motor skills such as writing, tying, pinching, drawing, and typing. In small groups he has practiced social skills including making eye contact, taking turns, flexible thinking, giving praise, and standing up for himself. He has learned flexibility with change and uncertainty. He has become a confident, happy, outgoing boy who is continually making progress.
Lauren and her talented therapists have helped me to learn about my son’s unique personality, strengths, and challenges. Because I have their support, insights, and guidance, I can more confidently make decisions that impact his education and development. I know that I am a better parent from what I have learned working with Funsense and I could not be more grateful! - Susan
FunSense Gym has had a profound impact on our three-year-old son's development! From the time he began OT sessions 8 months ago, we have observed a continual strengthening of his fine and gross motor skills, and an increase in his attention span and ability to execute tasks that used to pose a challenge for him. We do not believe he would be nearly this far in his development without the OT he has received at FunSense Gym. Furthermore, working with Lauren, Suzie, and the entire staff at FunSense Gym has been nothing short of wonderful. They have offered unlimited support, advice, and care for our son and entire family. FunSense Gym has created an enjoyable space that allows children to have fun while also working on their skills and development. Our son is always excited to go to his OT sessions and has grown very fond of the staff. They have created an incredibly warm and nurturing environment in which our son has thrived and made great advances in his development. We cannot thank them enough! - Nikki
It’s hard to believe this journey started 7 years ago, BUT I am grateful to tell you it has an AMAZING ending, one that I truly believe would not have been possible without Lauren Jaffe. My son had a developmental regression at 18 months and after seeing numerous Physicians, Specialists, and an entire team at Early Intervention, one evaluation with Lauren Jaffe and I knew Fun Sense is where my son needed to be. Lauren was the first clinician to evaluate my son as a whole little person and not just a diagnosis or specific deficits (there were many). Lauren is warm, kind, nurturing yet firm, and extremely knowledgeable. Her wonderful ability to teach with love and care is so evident and my son was incredibly comfortable from Day 1, which is and of itself -- AMAZING. Making a treatment plan based on my son’s strengths and weaknesses was never an issue for him because she made it fun, engaging, and interactive so he didn’t realize the hard work he was doing. As one of the first students for the Foundations Program, he continually made strides with his sensory processing challenges, coordination difficulties, hypotonia and speech. Flash forward to TODAY and it still brings tears to my eyes when I watch him ride his bike with his neighborhood friends, ice skate at the rink, roller blade at the park and not only go across the monkey bars but climb on top of them! I’d highly recommend Fun Sense to any parent who is seeking an experienced and loving OT who really “gets” our kiddos. It’s incredibly rare to find a therapist as comprehensively tuned in to each individual child AND his/her family. - Nancy
